Introducing the Wavelight® EX500 excimer laser, the newest and fastest laser available in the U.S. Besides being fast (really fast!), the Wavelight EX500 utilizes proprietary PerfectPulse Technology®, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser maintains a high pulse frequency with a minimized thermal load. What does that mean for you? It means quicker visual recovery, less discomfort after your LASIK procedure, and better overall outcomes. In fact, the majority of our LASIK patients achieve vision better than 20/20. The EX500 also has iris recognition and a powerful 1050 Hz-type multi-dimensional eye tracker. This ensures the patient's treatment is quick and consise. The quicker the treatment, the less anxiety a patient usually has during their LASIK procedure. We feel this is just one of the reasons we are the leading LASIK provider in the area.
What makes a good LASIK candidate?
Unfortunately, there is no straight forward answer. Everyone is different. From a person's health to their prescription, occupation and visual goals, no 2 people are the same. Just because you have good occular health and a prescription that falls into what the laser can treat, doesn't make you a good candidate. Other factors such as age, corneal thicknes, and numerous other factors play a role in whether a person is a good candidate for LASIK. That's excatly why Envision Laser Centers offers a free LASIK consultation. Unlike many other providers, we don't just explain the procedure, but we actually do some testing and educate the patient on how the risks and benefits of LASIK apply specifically to that individual. After an extensive dilated eye exam, then we determine if that patient is in fact a good LASIK candidate.
The LASIK Lifestyle
Convenience – With LASIK, you get up and go. Glasses involve cleaning, adjusting and replacing on a biannual basis. People spend time daily, inserting and removing contacts, not to mention dealing with solutions and the irritation and dryness they cause many people. People are busier today than ever before and the convenience of LASIK is the fuel that drives numerous patients to have LASIK each year.
Occupation/lifestyle – People have different jobs and different activities they like to do. Glasses and contacts pose a big problem for firefighters, police, military, astronauts and many other emergency personal, where failure of vision from contacts or glasses can mean the difference between life and death. Many other activities such as golfing, swimming, running, etc. can be performed at a higher level with LASIK versus relying on glasses and contacts.
Cost – Glasses are usually replaced every other year at an approximate cost of $300-$700. Over a lifetime, most individuals will spend at least $15,000 on glasses and exams. Yearly use of contact lenses can range between $600-$1,800 per year depending on the kind of lenses. Most contact wearers also buy glasses to use when their lenses are out. Contact lens wearer will spend over $25,000 in their lifetime on solutions, doctor visits, etc. LASIK has a total cost of less than $4,000 which may seem costly, but over the long run will save you thousands of dollars.
